2-Butanol is a colorless liquid with a special alcohol odor. Soluble in water, ethanol and ether. With good solubility, sec-Butanol can be used as a solvent to extract and separate organic compounds, and can also be used to synthesize other compounds, such as esters, ethers and so on.
Uses：
1. As an organic solvent, 2-Butanol is used in paint, ink, glue and other industries, which can dissolve many kinds of organic substances and improve the processability and ductility of products.
2. Used in the production of methyl ethyl ketone, also used in the manufacture of butyl acetate, sec-butyl acetate, etc., but also as a raw material for the synthesis of flavors, dyes and so on.
3. butan-2-ol is used as anti-emulsifier, dye dispersant, dehydrating agent, paint stripper, industrial detergent, etc. It is also used in the manufacture of plasticizer, mineral selecting agent, herbicide, grease extractant, wetting agent, spice, etc.
Method of Preparation:
The preparation of sec-butanol can be obtained by the hydration reaction of isobutene. Isobutylene reacts with water to form sec-butanol.
