What is Methyl 4-Hydroxybenzoate CAS 99-76-3?
Methyl 4-Hydroxybenzoate (Methyl Paraben) is a 4-hydroxybenzoate ester resulting from the formal condensation of the carboxy group of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid with methanol. It is the most frequently used antimicrobial preservative in cosmetics. It occurs naturally in several fruits, particularly in blueberries.
Methylparaben is an anti-fungal agent often used in a variety of cosmetics and personal-care products. It is also used as a food preservative.
Applications of Methylparaben:
1. In cosmetics, methyl paraben is a commonly used preservative to prevent the oils, spices, pigments and other ingredients in cosmetics from being deteriorated by microbial contamination and to extend the shelf life of cosmetics.
2. As a food additive, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is used in soy sauce, sauces, beverages, pastries and other foodstuffs to play the role of anticorrosion and freshness.
