What is High Molecular Weight Polyisobutylene ?

The high molecular weight polyisobutylene (HMW-PIB) is a solid rubber­like substance and appears as a transparent non-drying synthetic polyisobutylene polymer, low color, with ultra-high viscosity and molecular weight. The product is compatible with synthetic polymers such as polypropylene, polyethylene, natural rubbers, resins, and waxes. Additionally, the high molecular weight polyisobutylene retains high elastic and resilient properties. These properties make it a preferred choice in wide range of applications which include lubricants, stretch films, adhesives, sealants, transportation, industrial, and food.

Applications：

1.Rubber Industry: Adding high molecular weight polyisobutylene to natural rubber or styrene butadiene rubber improves the aging and weathering resistance of rubber at high temperatures. It is suitable for oil tanks, pipes, other containers or vehicle tires.
2.Plastics Industry: Adding small amount of HMW-PIB at 6-10°C above the melting point of plastics can enhance the performance of plastics.
3.Lubricant additives: Derivatives of high molecular weight polyisobutylene (e.g. polyisobutylene succinimides) are important lubricant additives.
4.Sealing Materials: Can be used to make sealing materials such as sealants and gaskets.
