Hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo benzene is a colorless crystalline solid (slightly yellowish), insoluble in ether, insoluble in dichloromethane, chloroform, acetonitrile (room temperature), moderately soluble in water, soluble in acetonitrile (reflux), methanol, dimethyl sulfoxide.
Chemical Properties:
With oxidizing property, HTIB can participate in many organic reactions as a mild oxidizing agent. The iodine atom in the molecule is connected with hydroxyl group and p-toluenesulfonyloxy group, which makes it able to undergo iodine substitution, oxidation and other reactions under certain conditions.

Htib is a commonly used electrophilic iodination reagent for phenyl iodination and oxygen sulfonylation of various organic substrates. For example, it reacts with ketones to form α-sulfonyloxyketones, and with olefins to form 1,2-disulfonyloxyalkanes via cis-addition.
Also used in ligand-free palladium-catalyzed Heck-type coupling reactions.
