DL-Mandelic acid is an aromatic α-hydroxy acid with the molecular formula C8H8O3.It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. Due to the chiral nature of the molecule, there are two enantiomers as well as a racemic mixture, para-mandelic acid. Mandelic acid is a colorless chemical in the form of flakes or powdered solids that are light in color and have a slight odor. It is soluble in hot water.It is a useful precursor for a variety of drugs,widely used as pharmaceutical intermediates, preservatives, pesticide intermediates, dye intermediates, etc.
