What is 98% Chlorodimethylsilane ?
Chlorodimethylsilane, also known as dimethylchlorosilane, or DMCS for short, is a compound with the chemical formula (CH3)2SiHCl. It is a silane in which silicon atoms are bonded to two methyl groups, a chlorine atom and a hydrogen atom. Its structure, including bond lengths and bond angles, has been determined by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. Chlorodimethylsilane is soluble in most organic solvents and insoluble in water. It is used as a starting material for the preparation of other organosilicon compounds. Also used as a polymer additive to improve polymer properties.
Applications：
1. Organosilicon polymer synthesis: Chlorodimethylsilane is used in the production of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which is the basic raw material for silicone oils and silicone resins, and is used in cosmetics (e.g., moisturizers), lubricants, insulating materials and so on. It is also used for silicone rubber, which is used to make seals, cable insulation, medical grade rubber products, and so on.
2. Surface treatment agent: Dimethylchlorosilane DMCS can be used as silane coupling agent to improve the surface adhesion of glass, metal, ceramics and other materials.
3. Chemical intermediates: as intermediates for synthesis of silicone-containing organic molecules, used in the production of drugs (such as antiviral drugs) and pesticides. DMCS is also used as organic synthesis reagent to prepare special organosilicon compounds.
