Phenol CAS 108-95-2 is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H5OH.It is a colorless needle-like crystal with a peculiar odor. It is an important raw material for the production of certain resins, fungicides, antiseptics, and drugs such as aspirin. It is slightly soluble in water at room temperature and easily soluble in organic solvents; It is corrosive and will denature local proteins upon contact. The solution can be washed with alcohol after contact with the skin. Small amounts of phenol exposed to air are oxidized by oxygen to quinone, which turns pink. This method is usually used to detect purple iron ions in phenol.
Uses of Phenol
