Polyisobutylene (PIB) is a linear polymer made from isobutylene, available in various molecular weights. It is chemically inert, hydrophobic, and impermeable to water vapor and gases. Produced through low-temperature polymerization, Polyisobutylene (PIB) has excellent resistance to oxidative and thermal degradation. With a straight-chain structure, it offers strong moisture and barrier properties and is soluble in many organic solvents. All grades are colorless, non-staining, and odorless, typically used in applications requiring low-temperature flexibility.
Polyisobutylene (PIB) uses
Polyisobutylene (PIB) is primarily used in the manufacture of ashless dispersants, gasoline engine fuel system flush additives and anti-corrosion additives.
Adding polyisobutylene to lubricating oils improves lubricity, controls ash buildup and enhances anti-wear protection.
Polyisobutylene (PIB) is also used in gear oils, two-stroke oils and metalworking fluids. Polyisobutylene helps regulate viscosity, improves low-temperature performance, increases adhesion and aids in clean combustion.
