What is Isobutylene CAS 115-11-7?
Isobutylene is a hydrocarbon with the chemical formula (CH₃)₂C=CH₂. It is a four-carbon branched alkene, one of the four isomers of butylene. It is a colorless flammable gas, and is of considerable industrial value.
Applications：
- Synthetic Rubber: Isobutylene is an important monomer for the synthesis of butyl rubber, copolymerisation with isoprene can produce butyl rubber.
- Plastics: used in the production of polyisobutylene. Polyisobutylene has good adhesion, water resistance and electrical insulation, can be used for the manufacture of sealing materials, adhesives, lubricant additives and so on.
- Fine chemicals: Isobutylene can be used to synthesise a variety of fine chemicals, such as methyl methacrylate, tert-butyl phenol, tert-butanol, etc..
