What is N-(Hydroxymethyl)acrylamide/N-Methylol Acrylamide?
N-(Hydroxymethyl)acrylamide (NMA or HAM) is an important organic compound with a chemical formula of C4H7N02. It is a white powder with good solubility, especially in water. The molecular structure of N-methylol acrylamide contains a polymerizable double bond and a reactive hydroxymethyl group, which makes it widely used in polymer synthesis and chemical cross-linking.
NMA is unstable in humid air or water and is easy to polymerize. When heated in the presence of acid in aqueous solution, it will quickly polymerize into an insoluble resin.
Applications of N-Methylol Acrylamide:
1.In the Coating Field: N-(Hydroxymethyl)acrylamide is used as a crosslinking monomer in water-based coatings and powder coatings.
2.In the Adhesive Field: Added to adhesives, it can improve the bonding strength and heat resistance of adhesives through crosslinking reactions. It is widely used in the bonding of wood, paper, leather and other materials.
3.In the Textile Field: Used for anti-wrinkle finishing and coating treatment of fabrics.
4.In the Papermaking Field: NMA is used as a paper strengthening agent in the papermaking industry.
5.In the Water Treatment Field: Copolymerized with other monomers, n-methylolacrylamide can be used to prepare water treatment flocculants for the purification of sewage.
