What is Potassium tert-Butoxide?
Potassium tert-Butoxide is a white solid, soluble in water and organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers. Potassium tert-butoxide is a basic substance which can react with acids to form corresponding salts and can be substituted with halogenated hydrocarbons. It is often used as a base catalyst in organic synthesis reactions, such as dehydration of alcohols and synthesis of ethers. It can also be used in the preparation of other organic compounds, such as esters and ketones.
Applications:
1. Potassium T-Butoxide is a strong alkaline reagent, used as a base in many organic reactions, such as in the elimination reaction, it can promote the elimination reaction of halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols and so on, to produce olefins.
2. In the synthesis of metal organic compounds, as a base or ligand involved in the reaction.
3. It is an important intermediate or reaction reagent in the synthesis of some drugs.
4. In the synthesis of polymer materials, it can be used as initiator or catalyst.
