What is Arbutin CAS 497-76-7?
Arbutin, a plant secondary metabolite, is a constituent extracted from the leaves of the arbutus plant in the Rhododendron family. The chemical structure of arbutin is a diphenylethane compound with two glycosidic groups. Its properties include a yellow crystalline powder that is soluble in polar solvents such as water, ethanol and acetone.
Applications of Beta-arbutin:
(1)Beta arbutin powder protect the skin against damage caused by free radicals.
(2)Arbutin inhibits the formation of melanin pigment by inhibiting Tyrosinase activity,is a kind of skin whitening agent.
Medical Function:
(1)It was first used in medical areas as an anti inflammatory and antibacterial agent.
(2)It may be used to repress the virulence of bacterial pathogens and to prevent contaminating bacteria, Beta arbutin is also used for treating allergic inflammation of the skin.
