How is polyacrylamide used?
PAM polyacrylamide, an organic polymer compound, is insoluble in most organic solvents but dissolves well in water. Ordinary tap water suffices for dissolution. The solution's concentration is influenced by temperature and pressure, with higher values increasing viscosity. For optimal results, dissolve it in water with a pH of 7 - 8, avoiding hard water, groundwater, recycled water, or water with excessive inorganic substances or metal ions, as these can reduce its effectiveness. Here's the proper dissolution method:
1.Prepare tools like a beaker, stirrer or rod, and weighing instrument beforehand.
2.Pour clean water into a beaker or container, start magnetic stirring, and add measured polyacrylamide powder. Stir thoroughly to evenly disperse the powder, using a large stir - able container to prevent caking.
3.Given its large molecular weight, polyacrylamide takes 30 - 60 minutes to dissolve. Slightly heating (below 40℃) can speed up the process, but higher temperatures cause degradation.
4.Use the solution after complete dissolution. Since it degrades easily, prepare only the needed amount and use it promptly. Anionic and nonionic types are typically dissolved at 0.1% concentration, while cationic ones are at 0.2%. You can also start with a higher concentration and dilute before use. Note that the solution has a short shelf life.
