CAS 75-09-2 DCM dichloromethane, also called methylene chloride, is a volatile, colorless liquid with a chloroform-like odor. The formula is CH2Cl2. Although it is not miscible with water, it is polar, and miscible with many organic solvents. Methylene chloride is used in various industrial processes, in many different industries including paint stripping, pharmaceutical manufacturing, paint remover manufacturing, and metal cleaning and degreasing.
There are health risks to workers and consumers who use DCM Dichloromethane-containing products, and to bystanders in workplaces and residences where methylene chloride is used. Effects of short-term (acute) exposures to workers and consumers, including bystanders, can result in harm to the central nervous system, or neurotoxicity. Effects of longer periods of exposure (chronic) for workers includes liver toxicity, liver cancer, and lung cancer.

Dichloromethane Safety & Handling Precautions

- Wear protective gloves, goggles, and clothing during handling.
- Store in tightly sealed containers away from heat, sparks, and open flames.
- Avoid prolonged exposure, as DCM can have health risks such as dizziness, irritation, and long-term toxicity.
