What is Xylene?
Xylene (systematic name: dimethylbenzene) is a broad category of aromatic hydrocarbons.This is a blend of three isomers-ortho-xylene (o-xylene), meta-xylene (m-xylene), and para-xylene (p-xylene)-all with the formula C₈H₁₀ but differing in the arrangement of the two methyl groups on the benzene ring. It is often used as a solvent in paints, inks, and adhesives.
What is p-Xylene?
p-Xylene (para-xylene) is one of these three xylene isomers. It is predominantly used to make PET plastic. So, while p-xylene is a component of xylene, they are not interchangeable terms when discussing production and end-use applications.
