What do we use pentane for?

The primary modern use of n-pentane CAS 109-66-0 is as a blowing agent in the production of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and polyurethane (PUR) foam insulation. When heated, it vaporises and creates bubbles/closed cells in the foam, resulting in excellent thermal insulation properties. Other uses include:

• N-Pentane is a solvent in laboratories and some industrial processes;
• It is also a component in some fuels (e.g. gasoline) and a raw material (feedstock) in petrochemical processes to produce other chemicals, such as olefins.
• N-Pentane C5H12  is also a raw material (feedstock) in petrochemical processes used to produce other chemicals, such as olefins.
