Under normal conditions, it is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid with a sweet taste and hygroscopic properties. Its melting point is -12.9℃, boiling point is 197.3℃, flash point is 111℃, and density is 1.13 g/mL. It is slightly soluble in diethyl ether, almost insoluble in benzene and its homologues, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and petroleum ether, and miscible with water, lower aliphatic alcohols, glycerol, acetic acid, acetone, and other similar ketones, aldehydes, and pyridines.
