What is Glacial Acetic Acid (GAA CAS 64-19-7) Used for?
Vinyl acetate monomer (VAM): (Accounts for ~35% of global use). Glacial Acetic Acid is used to make paints, adhesives, coatings and polymers such as polyvinyl acetate (PVA).
Acetic anhydride: Used to produce cellulose acetate for photographic film, cigarette filters and textiles, as well as pharmaceuticals such as aspirin.
Solvents: Production of ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, which are common solvents for inks, coatings and cosmetics.
Terephthalic acid (PTA): CAS 64-19-7 Glacial Acetic Acid is a key precursor for polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used to make plastic bottles and polyester fibres.
Other uses: Production of monochloroacetic acid, dyes and intermediates for pesticides, as well as use as a laboratory reagent.
