What is the difference between DMF and DMAC Chemicla?
DMF (Dimethylformamide) and DMAC (Dimethylacetamide) are both polar, high-boiling solvents, often used to dissolve polymers. But they have obvious differences in stability, safety and physical properties.
Stability, Safety and Physical properties
N,N-Dimethylacetamide DMAC is more chemically stable than DMF. N,N-Dimethylformamide DMF breaks down easily when it meets acids or bases, while DMAC is more resistant to heat. In terms of safety, DMF is more volatile and toxic, so DMAC is a safer option. Physically, DMAC has a higher boiling point (165°C) than DMF (153°C).
Applications in Industry
Their uses in industry also differ. Dimethylformamide DMF is cheaper and widely applied in large-scale production, such as making acrylic fibers, synthetic leather and processing polyurethane (PU). DMAC has better dissolution power for specific polymers, so it is often used in producing spandex, aramid fibers and high-performance polymers.
