What is the triethylene glycol dehydration process?
The triethylene glycol (TEG) dehydration process is a common method used in the oil and gas industry to remove water vapor from natural gas streams.
A continuous absorption-regeneration cycle:
Absorption: Wet natural gas flows upward through a contactor column while lean (dry) TEG flows downward, absorbing water vapor.
Rich TEG Recovery: Water-rich TEG is pumped to a regenerator.
Regeneration: Rich TEG is heated (~150–200°C) in a reboiler, evaporating water, leaving lean TEG.
Recycling: Lean TEG is cooled and pumped back to the contactor.
This process reduces water content in gas to <7 lbs per MMSCF (meets pipeline specifications).
Advantages of Triethylene Glycol (TEG) Dehydration
1. High Efficiency
2. Low Vapor Loss
3. Thermal Stability
4. Cost-Effective
5. Proven & Reliable
6. Non-Corrosive
7. Flexible Operation
