What is Tilmicosin Oral Solution?
Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. It works by inhibiting protein synthesis. Tilmicosin shows a broad spectrum of activity against Mycoplasma, Pasteurella, and Haemophilus, and also gram-positive organisms, such as Staphylococcus and Corynebacterium.
Tilmicosin Oral Solution is an antibiotic drug used to treat various types of infections in animals like cows, poultry, pigs, and turkeys. It is indicated for the treatment of respiratory infections, ovine mastitis, ovine foot rot, and interdigital necrobacillosis caused by susceptible microorganisms.
What is the veterinary use of tilmicosin?
- Cattle: for first-line control and treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Also used for the treatment of respiratory bacterial diseases in large ruminants caused by Pasteurella migratoria, Mannheimia haemolytica, Haemophilus somnus and Haemophilus histolyticus.
- Poultry: respiratory infections in chickens, such as infectious bronchitis and chronic respiratory diseases. It can inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, relieve respiratory symptoms and improve the survival rate of chickens.
- Swine: prevent and treat swine pneumonia, especially Mycoplasma pneumonia. It can reduce the occurrence of lung inflammation and alleviate symptoms such as coughing and dyspnea.
- Sheep and goats: respiratory infections in sheep and infectious pleuropneumonia in goats can be treated with tilmicosin.
Is there a withdrawal period after treatment with Tilmicosin?
The withdrawal time is 14 days for calves and pigs and 12 days for poultry. The withdrawal period in cows for milk is 8 milkings. The exact duration will depend on local regulations, the animal species, the body weight of the animal, and the used dosage.
