What is Thionyl Chloride Liquid ?
Thionyl chloride is a colourless liquid with a pungent odour, which can be rapidly hydrolysed in air to produce toxic hydrogen chloride gas. It can be dissolved in some organic solvents, such as alcohols, ethers and aromatic hydrocarbons, and can react with water, alcohols, amines, etc. to form corresponding acids, esters or chloramines. Thionyl chloride is mainly used in organic synthesis reaction as dehydrating agent and chlorinating agent.
Applications：
Thionyl Chloride is used as chlorinating agent for synthesis or replacement of organic compounds, such as alcohols, hydroxyls, anhydrides, organic sulfonic acids and nitro compounds. It is also used for the synthesis of chloroacylation agents such as thiazoline, pyrrolidine and amide in closed-loop reaction, and also used to prepare catalysts for the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, organic anhydride, dye intermediates, etc. In addition, Thionyl Dichloride is also used as an analytical reagent for the determination of aromatic amines and aliphatic amines
Pure Thionyl Chloride is used in the production of medicine, pesticide and dyestuff. It is mainly used in the production of Isocarbophos, sumethrin, clotrimetrap, indomethacin, vitamin A, etc. It can also be used to manufacture acyl chlorides
