Pure, anhydrous acetic acid is a colourless, hygroscopic liquid. Below 16.7°C, it forms ice-like crystals. This is why it is called 'glacial acetic acid'.
Glacial acetic acid boils at a high temperature (118 °C). This is due to the formation of stable hydrogen bonds between two acetic acid molecules in the form of a cyclic dimer. Its flammability point is 39 °C. Its density at 25 °C is 1.05 g/mL.
Differences between glacial acetic acid and acetic acid
The difference between glacial acetic acid and acetic acid is that: GAA(CAS 64-19-7) is pure acetic acid, a pure substance, and acetic acid is generally a mixture. Acetogenin is a synthetic vinegar. Its main component is acetic acid (i.e. acetic acid), which is diluted with edible glacial acetic acid. Acetaminophen has a strong sour taste due to its high concentration of acetic acid, so it should be diluted when used; Generally, the acetic acid content shall not exceed 3-4%. Acetic acid, also known as acetic acid (36% – 38), GAA (98%), chemical formula CH3COOH, is an organic monobasic acid, which is the source of sour taste and pungent smell in vinegar.
