Treatment must be stopped at least 28 days before cattle are slaughtered to avoid antibiotic residues in the meat. In addition, milk from treated animals must not be used as food during treatment and for 96 hours after the last treatment. Rapid intravenous administration can cause unconsciousness in animals, therefore, oxytetracycline should be administered slowly intravenously over a period of at least 5 minutes.
