- Polyurethane Foam: 2-Dimethylaminoethanol is one of the important catalysts for the production of polyurethane foam, which can accelerate the formation reaction of polyurethane foam and improve the performance of the foam.
- Coatings and paints: DMEA is used as neutraliser, catalyst and additive in coatings and paints.
- Surfactant: 2-Dimethylaminoethanol is used to prepare various surfactants, such as amphoteric surfactants and cationic surfactants.
- Pharmaceutical industry: DMEA is the intermediate of synthesising some drugs, for example, it is used to synthesise local anaesthetics, sedatives and other drugs.
- Gas purification: 2-(Dimethylamino)-ethanol can be used to remove acid gases, such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide, from natural gas and synthesis gas.
