What is Formic Acid CAS 64-18-6?

Formic acid (HCO2H), also called methanoic acid, is the simplest carboxylic acid. Industrially, it is produced by treatment of carbon monoxide with an alcohol such as methanol (methyl alcohol) in the presence of a catalyst.
Formic acid is a weak electrolyte. Its aqueous solution is weakly acidic and has a certain degree of corrosiveness. Since its molecular structure does not contain alkyl groups, its acidity ranks first among non-substituted fatty monobasic acids. Formic acid is also reducing and can be oxidized to carbon dioxide and water. Methanoic acid can also undergo esterification, amidation, addition, neutralization, dehydration and other reactions.

1.Textile Industry: Formic acid liquid is used for dyeing and printing fabrics.
