Vinyl acetate (VAM) is a colourless transparent liquid with fruity and irritating odour, slightly soluble in water, miscible in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ethyl ether, benzene, acetone and chloroform. In the presence of heat, light or trace peroxide initiator, it is easy to polymerisation reaction; it can undergo addition reaction, ester exchange reaction and so on.

Uses
- Synthetic fibre field: Vinyl acetate is the main raw material for the production of vinylon, and can also be used for the production of acetate fibre.
- Plastic field: VAM is an important raw material for the production of PVC, PE, PP and other plastics. It can also be copolymerised with other monomers to produce various functional plastics.
- Coatings and adhesive field: Vinyl acetate can be used to produce polyvinyl acetate emulsion, copolymer emulsion, etc., which can be used in architectural coatings, woodworking adhesive, paper adhesive, and so on.
- Rubber field: As a plasticiser for rubber processing, it can also be used in the production of vulcanised rubber.
