Isopropyl myristate is a colorless, transparent and odorless liquid that can be miscible with vegetable oil. Resistant to hydrolysis and rancidity. Refractive index nD201.435 ~ 1.438, relative density (20 ºC) 0.85 ~ 0.86, melting point -5°C, boiling point 193 °C20 mm Hg(lit.), vapor pressure <1 hPa (20 °C), flash point >230 °F. Soluble in ethanol, ether. Insoluble in water. It has good lubricity and permeability, can improve the affinity to the skin, and is a low alcohol ester of higher fatty acids.
Uses
Isopropyl myristate is used as a dispersant in lipsticks, hair creams, lip balms, cleansers, powders and medical ointments, and as a perfume fixative for cosmetic pigments.
