What is Stearic Acid?
Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid with an 18-carbon chain and has the IUPAC name octadecanoic acid. It is a waxy solid and its chemical formula is C17H35CO2H. The salts and esters of stearic acid are called stearates. As its ester, it is one of the most common saturated fatty acids found in nature following palmitic acid.
Stearic Acid is widely used as the basic raw materials of surfactants.Usedas lubricant and stabilizer in plastics industry, Softener and fungicide intextile industry and household detergents, lt is used as wax model inprecision casting and soap base in grease industry.
Application of Stearic Acid:
1. Plastic industry: widely used in the manufacture of PVC plastic pipes, plates, profiles and films, and can be used as plasticizers, stabilizers and lubricants.
2. Rubber industry: used as vulcanization activator for rubber polymer and latex, also as softener.
3. Cosmetic industry: Widely used in skin care products for creams and cold creams.
4. Candle grade: can be used as an ingredient in candles.
5. Textile industry: used as lubricant and manufacturing yarn mercerizing softener.
6. Plastic pencil (refill) and ink agent, lubricant and copperplate paper with wax precision casting.
