Paraformaldehyde is the smallest polyoxymethylene, the polymerization product of formaldehyde with a typical degree of polymerization of 8–100 units. It commonly has a slight odor of formaldehyde due to decomposition. PFA is a poly-acetal.
Applications：
- Pesticide: Paraformaldehyde is an important raw material for the production of many kinds of pesticides such as herbicides and insecticides.
- Pharmaceuticals: PFA is used in the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture coating materials for slow- and controlled-release drugs, dental materials and so on.
- Resin: It is used to produce phenolic resin, urea-formaldehyde resin and many other synthetic resins. Phenolic resin produced from paraformaldehyde has good heat resistance, mechanical strength and electrical insulation.
