Isobutyl alcohol is an organic compound with the formula (CH₃)₂CHCH₂OH. This colorless, flammable liquid with a characteristic smell is mainly used as a solvent either directly or as its esters. Its isomers are 1-butanol, 2-butanol, and tert-butanol, all of which are important industrially.
Applications：
- Chemical raw material: Isobutyl alcohol is an important raw material for the production of isobutyl ester plasticisers, such as isobutyl alcohol reacting with phthalic anhydride to produce diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), which is a plasticiser with excellent performance.
- Solvent: It has good solubility and can be used as a solvent for paints, inks, lacquers, varnishes and so on. It is also used in cosmetic and spice industries as solvent and extractant.
