What is Phosphorus Pentoxide?
Characteristics: white powder, easily deliquescent white crystalline powder, relevant density is 0.9g/cm3, sublimate at 300ºC, melting point is 580-585ºC, vapour pressure is 133.3Pa (384ºC). When heating to higher temperature, the crystalline changes to amorphous vitreum, absorbing moisture when expose to the air. omitting heat and white smoke when soluble in water.
Uses:
1. Used as desiccant for gas and liquid; dehydrating agent for organic synthesis, antistatic agent for polyester resin, refining agent for medicine and sugar. It is the parent raw material for producing high-purity phosphoric acid, phosphate, phosphide and phosphate ester.
2. Phosphorus Pentoxide can also be used in the manufacture of phosphorus pentoxide sol and H-type aerosol.
3. Used in the manufacture of optical glass, UV-transmitting glass, heat-insulating glass, glass-ceramic and opalescent glass, etc., to improve the dispersion coefficient of the glass and the ability to transmit ultraviolet rays. Used as desiccant, dehydrating agent, sugar refining agent, and used to prepare phosphoric acid, phosphorus compound and aerosol, etc. It is used as doping source of semiconductor silicon, dehydration desiccant, organic synthesis condensing agent and surfactant. It is often used to test the mass fraction of oxygen in the air in junior high school chemistry.
4. Phosphorus pentoxide is mainly used as desiccant, dehydrating agent in organic synthesis and catalytic reagent for ring-closing reaction.
