What is Stearyl Methacrylate (SMA)/Octadecyl methacrylate?
Stearyl methacrylate (SMA) is a water insoluble, low volatile, monofunctional methacrylate monomer with long and linear hydrophobic side chains.Octadecyl methacrylate can be used as a surfactant in industry and can be applied in the manufacture of various detergents, emulsifiers and lubricants.
Uses:
Polymer Industry: SMA is used as a monomer to synthesize various polymers, such as acrylic resins. The introduction of long alkyl chains can improve the flexibility, hydrophobicity and weather resistance of polymers.
Coating Industry: Octadecyl methacrylate can be used in the preparation of coatings to improve the surface properties of coatings, such as water resistance and scratch resistance.
