Propionic acid, is a short chain saturated fatty acid with the chemical formula ch3ch2cooh. Propionic acid is a colorless, corrosive liquid with pungent smell.
It is mainly used as food preservative and mildew inhibitor. It can also be used as an inhibitor of medium viscosity substances such as beer, plasticizer. It can also be used in the preparation of nickel plating solution and food flavor.
Uses:
- Food Industry: Propionic Acid is mainly used as a preservative and antifungal agent. It can inhibit the growth of mold and bacteria, prolonging the shelf life of food.
- Feed Industry: Added to animal feed to prevent mold growth.
