Applications of Tert-butanol (TBA)/Tertiary butyl alcohol:
Solvent: Tertiary butyl alcohol is often used as a solvent in coatings and pharmaceuticals, replacing n-butanol.
Fuel Additive: Used as an additive in internal combustion engine fuels to prevent carburetor icing and as an antiknock agent.
Chemical Intermediate: As an alkylation raw material in organic synthesis, TBA can produce methyl methacrylate, tert-butyl phenol, tert-butylamine and other products, which are used in the synthesis of drugs and fragrances.
Other Applications: Tert-butanol can be used as a solvent for industrial detergents, a solvent for drug extraction, an insecticide, a solvent for wax, and a solvent for cellulose esters, plastics and paints. It is also used to make denatured alcohol and isobutene.
