What is Dibutyl phthalate CAS 84-74-2?
Dibutyl phthalate is a colourless transparent to light yellow oily liquid at room temperature, without special smell, it has good solubility, it can be miscible with ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene and other organic solvents, but insoluble in water. It is relatively stable chemically, and is not easy to decompose and react under general conditions. However, it can be hydrolysed under certain conditions such as high temperature, strong acid or strong alkali to produce phthalic acid and butanol.
Applications：
- Plasticiser: Dibutyl phthalate is a commonly used plasticiser for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), cellulose resin and other synthetic materials. It can increase the flexibility, plasticity and processing performance of materials.
- Other applications: DBP can be used as solvent and plasticiser in paints and printing ink, which can improve the film-forming property of paints and the fluidity of printing ink. It can also be used as fixing agent of spices, additive of cosmetics and as intermediate of organic synthesis.
