Triethylene glycol (TEG) is a colourless, transparent, slightly sweet, stable, viscous liquid. It can miscible with water, ethanol, benzene, toluene, insoluble in ether, insoluble in petroleum ether. It has the oxygen original connected with alkyl and hydroxyl, so it has the properties of alcohol and ether.

Uses
- As a solvent, triethylene glycol can efficiently separate benzene, toluene and other aromatic hydrocarbons from petroleum distillates; it can dissolve rubber, nitrate fibre and other aids to production; it is used in the coating and printing ink industry to improve product performance.
- As an additive, TEG can improve the low-temperature fluidity of diesel fuel and anti-wax performance, and can also be used as a lubricant additive intermediate to extend the life of machinery.
- As a synthetic raw material, triethylene glycol can be used to synthesise polyester in the chemical field for the production of plastic film, etc. It is also used to synthesise non-ionic surfactants; it can be used to assist in the dissolution and synthesis of drugs in the pharmaceutical industry.
