12-Hydroxystearic acid is a fatty acid. It is a hydroxysterol acid found mainly in some natural vegetable oils such as palm oil and sunflower oil. 12-Hydroxystearic acid is a white solid, insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and chloroform; it has properties similar to stearic acid, but with the presence of hydroxyl groups, 12-HSA can be used as a catalyst for some special chemical reactions.
