What is ethylene carbonate solvent?
Ethylene Carbonate (EC), CAS 96-49-1, is an important organic solvent and chemical intermediate. It is a colourless transparent liquid at room temperature, and becomes white needle-like crystals after solidification. Very soluble in water, ethanol and acetone and other polar solvents, slightly soluble in diethyl ether and other non-polar solvents. Ethylene carbonate solvent is used as raw material for manufacturing polyester resin or synthetic paint, and is used in the production of paints, lacquers, glues, acrylate elastomers and so on.
Applications：
1. Electrolyte solvent: Ethylene carbonate is mixed with low viscosity solvents (e.g. Dimethyl Carbonate, DMC; Ethyl Methyl Carbonate, EMC) to form the electrolyte solution for lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries.
2. Electrolyte additives: Improve the compatibility between electrolyte and electrode.
3. In organic synthesis and chemical industry, Ethylene carbonate is used in the synthesis of polyurethane, epoxy resin and pharmaceutical intermediates. EC can also be used as raw material for dimethyl carbonate, DMC; diethyl carbonate, DEC.
