Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), also known as ethyl silicate or tetraethoxysilane, is an organosilicon compound with the formula C₈H₂₀O₄Si. It is a colourless liquid with a pungent odour, practically insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. TEOS is the standard monomeric silica source for sol-gel chemistry: it hydrolyses in the presence of water (and an acid or base catalyst) to silanols, which condense into Si–O–Si networks. This makes it a versatile crosslinker, binder and surface-treatment agent across many industries.

Applications：

• 98% Tetraethyl orthosilicate is an important material for sol-gel processing. It can be used as a crosslinker and a binder in adhesives, coatings and silicone rubbers, especially suitable for zinc-rich paints.
• TEOS can be used for the surface treatment of metals, glass, fibers, inorganic fillers and pigments. It can improve mechanical properties and chemical properties of the composites.
• Tetraethoxysilane  CFS-104 can be used for optical glass processing and improve the light transmittance.
• It can be used as an insulation material in electronic industry and a silica source for semiconductors and zeolites synthesis.

TEOS is a flammable liquid and must be handled with care:

1. GHS hazard classification: flammable liquid (flash point about 40°C, closed cup); keep away from ignition sources.
2. UN 1292 (Tetraethyl silicate) - transport under dangerous-goods regulations.
3. Handle with adequate ventilation; avoid skin and eye contact (use gloves and goggles); TEOS hydrolyses in contact with moisture.
4. Store sealed, in a cool, dry place, protected from light, away from strong oxidizers; keep the container tightly closed when not in use.
