Methacrylic acid, abbreviated MAA, is an organic compound with the formula CH2=C(CH3)CO2H. This colorless, viscous liquid is a carboxylic acid with an acrid unpleasant odor. It is soluble in warm water and miscible with most organic solvents. Methacrylic acid is produced industrially on a large scale as a precursor to its esters, especially methyl methacrylate (MMA), and to poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).

Application Fields:
- Plastics industry: as an important monomer used in the synthesis of polymethyl methacrylate (organic glass).
- Coatings: The coatings synthesised from methacrylic acid have excellent weather resistance, adhesion and gloss.
- In the field of adhesives: adhesives prepared from MAA have good bonding properties to a variety of materials such as metals, plastics, rubbers, etc., and are widely used in electronics, packaging, shoe-making and other industries.
- In textile industry: its polymer emulsion can be used as fabric finishing agent to improve the handfeel, wrinkle resistance, anti-static and other properties of fabrics, and improve the quality of textiles.
Storage environment:
- Methacrylic acid should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse, far away from fire and heat source, and the temperature of the warehouse should not exceed 30℃, preventing from direct sunlight, avoiding the danger of volatilisation or even combustion caused by high temperature.
- Segregation requirements: need to be stored separately from oxidising agents, alkalis, amines and other substances, to avoid chemical reactions triggered by mixed storage, the storage area should be set up with obvious marking and segregation facilities.
- Safety protection: the warehouse is equipped with appropriate fire fighting equipment, such as dry powder fire extinguishers, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, etc., and leakage emergency treatment equipment is set up at the same time.
