What is Polyacrylic Acid (PAA)?

Appearance: Usually appears as a white powder. In some cases, Poly(acrylic acid) may also be in the form of a colorless to light yellow viscous liquid, depending on the processing and formulation.
Solubility: Soluble in water, forming a clear and viscous solution. The solubility is related to the degree of polymerization and the presence of other substances. PAA can also dissolve in some polar organic solvents to a certain extent.
Acidity: Polyacrylic Acid is a weak acid with carboxyl groups (-COOH) in its molecular structure, which can release hydrogen ions in aqueous solutions, showing acidic properties. The acidity can be adjusted by controlling the degree of dissociation and the concentration of the polymer.
Viscosity: Exhibits high viscosity in aqueous solutions, and the viscosity increases with the increase in the degree of polymerization and concentration. This property makes it widely used in applications where viscosity regulation is required.

Water Treatment: Polyacrylic acid is used as a dispersant and scale inhibitor in water treatment systems.
Detergent industry: As a synergist and dispersant in detergents, it can chelate with metal ions in water to enhance the cleaning effect of detergents.
Paper industry: In the paper industry, PAA can be used as retention aid and reinforcing agent.
Textile industry: In textile dyeing and finishing, it can be used as a thickener and leveling agent.
Personal care products: Carbomer 910 is used as a thickener, stabilizer and emulsifier in personal care products such as shampoos, lotions and creams.
