Is mono ethylene glycol poisonous?
Mono ethylene glycol MEG has significant toxicity and can be extremely hazardous, especially if accidentally ingested. Due to its sweet flavour, it can easily attract children and pets to ingest it. Even a small amount of ingestion may trigger symptoms such as nausea, severe vomiting and dizziness. Prolonged contact with monoethylene glycol can damage the skin's natural barrier and interfere with the normal metabolism of skin cells, thus triggering skin irritation and symptoms such as redness, swelling, itching and rashes. In an enclosed environment with poor ventilation, vapours formed by the volatilisation of ethylene glycol will gradually accumulate. As inhalation increases, the toxic components in the vapour will enter the blood circulation through the respiratory tract, which in turn affects the central nervous system, leading to headache, dizziness, fatigue and other symptoms, and long-term exposure may also cause irreversible damage to the respiratory system.

- In case of leakage, adsorbent materials such as adsorbent cotton and sand should be used immediately to clean up and properly collected and disposed of to prevent the spread of contamination;
- In the unfortunate event of accidental ingestion, MEG should be immediately sent to hospital for treatment, do not induce vomiting without authorisation, so as to avoid asphyxiation or other complications due to accidental attraction of vomit.
