What is Fenbendazole
Fenbendazole is classified as a benzimidazole carbamate. It shows a broad spectrum of activity against both mature and immature nematodes and cestodes. Fenbendazole works by inhibiting glucose uptake. This drains a parasite's glycogen reserves, which leads to its death.
What animals can take fenbendazole?
Fenbendazole is an anthelmintic used to treat gastrointestinal and respiratory worm infections in many animals such as cats, cattle, dogs, goats, horses, poultry, sheep, and swine. It is an effective treatment for parasites such as Brucella, blood mites, nematodes, Ostertagia, roundworms, and lungworms such as fetal dinoflagellates. In dogs, it can be used to treat roundworms, hookworms, and the more difficult-to-treat whipworms. It is effective against the tapeworm species of tapeworm, but not against the common tapeworm, Diphyllobothrium. It is also effective against Giardia lamblia, an intestinal protozoan that causes diarrhea, as well as several species of lungworms and even some trematodes.
