Low molecular weight polyisobutene (PIB) refers to polyisobutylene (PIB) with a relative molecular mass between 350-35000. It is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic viscous liquid or semi-solid state of the substance, with good heat resistance, oxygen resistance, ultraviolet resistance, acid and alkali resistance and other chemical properties.
Preparation method
Low molecular weight polyisobutylene is prepared by homopolymerization of isobutylene. Different preparation methods and process conditions will lead to changes in molecular weight. Low molecular weight polyisobutylene is usually obtained by controlling the conditions of the polymerization reaction.
Application of Low molecular weight polyisobutylene PIB
Low molecular weight polyisobutylene is widely used in many fields:
1. Lubricants and their additives
2. Electrical insulating materials
3. Adhesives and sealants
4. Blending of other polymers: In polymers such as rubber, low molecular weight polyisobutylene is used to improve the aging resistance and impact resistance of the material.
