What is Sulfadiazine and Trimethoprim Suspension
It is an antimicrobial drug widely used in livestock and poultry and consists of two main active ingredients: sulfadiazine and methotrexate. This drug is widely used in animal husbandry for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by a wide range of bacteria, especially bacterial infections of the respiratory, digestive and urinary tracts.
How Sulfadiazine and Trimethoprim Suspension works
Sulfasalazine is a drug that inhibits the bacterial enzyme dihydrofolate synthase, which prevents the first step in the synthesis of folic acid and inhibits bacterial growth.
Trimethoprim, on the other hand, enhances the antimicrobial effect of sulfasalazine by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which further blocks the production of folic acid.
This double blockage of folate metabolism prevents the bacteria from synthesizing the required nucleic acids and proteins, ultimately leading to bacterial death. This combination is particularly suitable for combating a wide range of infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
