What is Stpp powder?
Sodium tripolyphosphate, also known as pentasodium phosphate, STPP. White powder crystal, good fluidity, relative molecular weight 367.86, melting point 622ºC, easily soluble in water, its aqueous solution is alkaline. STPP powder is used in food, as water retention agent, quality improver, pH regulator, metal chelating agent.
Applications：
Food Additive:
1. Sodium tripolyphosphate is used in meat products (e.g. ham, sausage) and aquatic products to enhance the water holding capacity of muscle protein by chelating metal ions.
2. React with acidic bulking agent in baked food to make the dough bulky and even.
3. STPP is used in dairy products, plant protein drinks (such as soya milk), to prevent fat stratification and improve the taste.
4. STPP powder is used in canned food, fruit juice and beverage to chelate iron, copper and other metal ions, inhibit oxidation and discolouration (e.g. prevent browning of canned fruits and vegetables).
In Industrial:
Sodium tripolyphosphate is used as one of the main auxiliaries for synthetic detergent, synergist for soap;Water softener, tanning agent for leather making, auxiliary for dyeing; As an oil contamination resistance agent in paper production.leather tanning (as masking agent and synthetic tanning agent - SYNTAN), anticaking, setting retarders, flame retardants, paper, anticorrosion pigments, textiles, rubber manufacture, fermentation, antifreeze."STPP is used as a polyanion crosslinker in polysaccharide based drug delivery
