N-Pentane is a colorless liquid with a faint minty aroma. It is soluble in water and in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene and chloroform. Extremely flammable, its vapor and air can form explosive mixtures. Very easy to burn and explode when exposed to open flame and high heat.
Application of Organic Intermediates N-Pentane/Pentane:
1.N-Pentane is being used primarily in Europe in integral-skin flexible foams.
2. It is used as a solvent, in the manufacture of low-temperature thermometers,and as a blowing agent for plastics.
3. N-Pentane is a flammable liquid. It has diverse uses in industry-for instance, as an aerosol propellant and as an important component of engine fuel.
