Industrial Grade Uses:
- Industrial acetic acid is a fundamental precursor to vinyl acetate monomers, acetic anhydride, and cellulose acetate.
- It is used as a highly polar proton solvent in organic synthesis, petroleum refining, and the production of purified terephthalic acid (PTA).
- It is used in textile dyeing processes.
Food-grade uses
- Acetic Acid (AcOH) can be used as a food additive (E260) to prevent the growth of spoilage bacteria and mold in condiments, mayonnaise, and cheese. Also used in low-pH brine to preserve fruits and vegetables and improve their texture.
- It is a base acidulant in salad dressings, mustard, ketchup, and salt and vinegar snacks.
