Properties
Benzene is colourless transparent volatile liquid at room temperature and pressure. Volatile, miscible with organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, chloroform, glacial acetic acid, carbon disulfide, carbon tetrachloride and oil. Soluble in water: 23.5°C, 0.188% cw/w). It is a compound that does not decompose easily. Its vapour can form explosive mixture with air. It is very easy to cause combustion and explosion when it meets high heat or open flame. It is easy to produce and accumulate static electricity. Reacts violently with oxidising agents.

Usage
Standard sample for the determination of refractive index. Benzene can be used as solvent and cleaning agent for precision optical instruments, electronic industry, organic synthesis, etc.
Safety
High concentration of benzene has anaesthetic effect on the central nervous system, causing acute poisoning. Long-term exposure to benzene can damage the haematopoietic system, causing chronic poisoning. Keep away from fire and heat source. The storage temperature should not exceed 30℃. Keep the container sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidising agents and edible chemicals and should not be mixed.
